Mary A. Brown, known simply as Mary B., specializes in portrait and events photography. Through her own lens as the proprietor of Mary B Photography, Mary B. has captured fashion model Eva Pigford and entrepreneur mogul Russell Simmons on the red carpet. Mary B.’s highlight reel also includes a 16-hour on-location shoot following Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Election Day during his 2006 victory. Through Mary B Photography, Mary B. captures the enjoyable moments of everyday people, making them all feel like celebrities.
Her professional experiences include serving as an adjunct lecturer at New York City College of Technology, CUNY—where she’s taught Digital Imaging and the Foundations of Graphic Communications—and as an associate art director at Black Enterprise magazine, where Mary B. has spent the last 12 years of her career.
As an associate art director at a major business publication based in New York City, Mary B. has spent time directing photo shoots—from noteworthy families who have a story to tell, to celebrity entrepreneurs. Some of the photo shoots she has organized include cover shoots of notables Oprah Winfrey, Dick Parsons, and Venus Williams.
She began her formal artistic training at the High School of Music and Art in New York City, where she studied fine arts. She continued her studies of graphic design and photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
